Just like John Robinson, who was an ambitious and industrious entrepreneur in Oatlands during the 1830's, the current owners of Robinsons, continued to develop this property further into a highly successful tourism operation. John Robinson was convicted of forgery and sentenced to transportation in 1820.  In 1836, he was granted land, and a year later built a comfortable weatherboard cottage - locally known as Robinson's Cottage.  Robinson was an entrepreneurial pioneer and acquired large land holdings, where he continued to erect buildings in the township of Oatlands.  By the 1870's, shops had been added on either side of his cottage.  The left of the cottage, was occupied by John Barwick - a saddler and harness maker and to the right, Drakes Chemist and Dispensary.  Today the original cottage and stores he built are on offer.

This fully restored complex of stores and the original cottage, over 1386m2, operates as an accommodation venture, and until recently, housed a highly successful hospitality operation, known as The Imbibers.
