About
Patna is the capital and the largest city in the state of Bihar. One of the most ancient continuously inhabited places in the world, Patna also serves as the seat of Patna High Court. It is situated on the southern banks of river Ganges. According to a study by the City Mayors Foundation, it is the 21st fastest growing cities in the world and 5th fastest growing city in India.
City Infrastructure
Situated about 100 kilometers south of national East-West Highway corridor, Patna has NH 30, NH 31, and NH 2 passing through it which facilitates connectivity significantly. The major corridors of the city include the Ashok Rajpath, Patna-Danapur Road, Bailey Road, Harding Road, and Kankarbagh Old Bypass Road. There has been a proposal by the Airport Authority of India to develop a civil enclave at Bihta Air Force Station which will serve as the new airport for Patna. When it comes to rail transport, the city is served by several railway stations. The Patna Junction Railway Station is one of the busiest in India. The rail-cum-road bridge, known as the Ganga Rail Road Bridge, which will connect Patna to Pahleja Ghat, is expected to be completed by 2016, making it one of the longest road cum rail bridge in the world, with a length of 4.55 kilometres. Besides railways playing a key role in connecting Patna to various other cities, it is also served by National Highways 19, 30, 31, and 83. Asias longest river bridge, the Mahatma Gandhi Setu in Patna links it with Hajipur across the Ganga. The proposal for a new six lane road bridge across the Ganges parallel to this bridge has been made.
