Worli is a locality in
Mumbai situated to the south of the city. This commercial hub is surrounded by the Arabian Sea to the west,
Haji Ali to the south,
Mahalaxmi to the east and
Prabhadevi (IT/ITES hub of
Mumbai) to its north.
Worli was one of the original seven islands that constituted the city of
Mumbai. Even till about a few decades ago, it was a traditional textile mill hub, but has now emerged as one of the key real estate destinations in the country. It has become all the more of a prominent node due to its proximity to CBD (
Nariman Point) on one side and
BKC (
Bandra Kurla Complex) on the other.
Worli hosts a number of leading companies such as Siemens, Tata Group, Deloitte, Birla Group, GSK Pharma, etc.
Connectivity
Good road and bus services have ensured that
Worli enjoys a smooth connectivity to the major parts of the city. The WorliBandra Sea Link, which is 5.6 kilometres in length, is situated on
Worli Sea Face. First opened in July 2009, it links the
Mumbai suburbs with south
Mumbai. This sea-link has significantly reduced the travel time between
Bandra and
Worli. As per expansion plans, it is further going to be merged to link the Lala Lajpat Rai Road and
Marine Drive. This locality also boasts of efficient railway connectivity, with the nearest stations being
Mahalaxmi,
Elphinstone, and
Lower Parel. The proposed monorail will further give a boost to the transportation network to suburban locations. Other projects under proposal include the
Peddar Road Flyover that will improve connectivity to the CBD, while the metro rail service will bring about an overall betterment for the daily commuters.
Real estate
Worli has a distinct edge as a real estate destination due to its sea facing location. Most of the properties available here enjoy a sea view. Besides several projects being under construction by prominent builders, some slum rehabilitation projects have also been undertaken.
