About
Jamshedpur, a city in Jharkhand, is the headquarters of the East Singhbhum district. It is the most populous urban agglomeration in the state. Situated on the Chhota
Nagpur plateau and surrounded by the strikingly beautiful Dalma Hills, this city is bordered by the rivers Subarnarekha and Kharkai. With an estimated average annual growth rate of 2.59 per cent,
Jamshedpur is pegged as the 84th fastest-growing city in the world in the 2006-2020 period. The city is also known as the Steel City and Tatanagar. Founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, it is the first planned industrial city of India.
City infrastructure
The major highways that connect this city to various parts of India include NH-33, NH-32, four-lane Expressway (Adityapur-Kandra Road), and Marine Drive four-lane Expressway. All highways connecting to
Jamshedpur are being broadened to four lanes.
A proposal has been made by Tata Steel to set up a 600-acre greenfield airport on the outskirts of the city, to match up to international standards. This project, once completed, will facilitate the landing and take-off of large aircraft, which the present airport is not able to accommodate. This will be a joint venture of Tata Realty and Infrastructure Ltd and Tata Steel. The Tatanagar Railway Station is part of the Southeastern Railway division connects the city to major centres like
Kanpur,
Kolkata,
Chennai,
Amritsar and Bengaluru.
Jamshedpur also is one of the six cities chosen for the UN Global Compact Cities Programme.
Real estate
Jamshedpur, being an employment hub, has emerged as a spot for several upcoming prime properties here, in areas like
Mango and
Kadma, for the salaried population. The property prices vary according to the area and amenities being offered in the complex. There also are a large number of flats in
Baridih and
Sonari.
At present, the real estate rates here are moderate but given the large-scale development plans, a price spike is seen as certain. The growing economy and a well-laid-out infrastructure are the two principal factors boosting the real estate market in
Jamshedpur. The adequate resources that the city offers, besides Tata being a brand name to reckon with, have made
Jamshedpur a preferred destination for home seekers.
Lifestyle
Since it is an industrial town, a major chunk of the population here belongs to the educated and working class. It is home to one the best B-schools in India, Xavier School of Management. There also are a number of other premier institutions like Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, National Institute of Technology
Jamshedpur, etc.
The city also has a reputation for being the sports capital of Jharkhand and hosts a number of private clubs, as well as academies and stadiums, such as JRD Tata Sports Complex, Keenan Stadium, Tata Football Academy, Tata Archery Academy, etc.
There is also a fair distribution of restaurants and hotels all over the city. Dalma Hills, Jubilee Park,
Dimna Lake, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Bhuvaneshwari temple, and Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, are some of the popular places of interest.
