About
Meerut is a city in Uttar Pradesh. Being an ancient city, it has settlements that date back to the Indus Valley civilization. The city lies at a distance of 70 kilometres northeast of the national capital New
Delhi, and 453 kilometres northwest of the state capital
Lucknow. The largest city in the National Capital Region,
Meerut is one of the largest producers of sports goods and musical instruments in India.
Partapur and Udyog Puram are the two industrial estates in the city.
City Infrastructure
Meerut enjoys excellent road connectivity to prominent cities like
Delhi,
Noida,
Faridabad,
Ghaziabad,
Haridwar, etc. Three national highways pass through the city, while the Upper Ganga Canal Expressway which passes through its outskirts, is under development.
Meerut hosts four railway stations. There has been a proposal for a Regional Rapid Transit System between
Meerut and
Delhi along with the
Ghaziabad Shahdara segment. Handled by the
Delhi Integrated Multimodal Transit System, this project is expected to reach completion by 2017. Further, a proposal of an expressway from
Meerut to
Delhi via
Ghaziabad is also underway, which will reduce the
Delhi-
Meerut drive to only 45 minutes. The
NH 58 will also be made into a six lane one. In 2014, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet had approved the proposed Metro Rail projects in
Meerut. Ever since the declaration of
Meerut as a metropolitan city in 2007, many new transport infrastructure projects and construction of new flyovers have come up.
Real Estate
Smooth connectivity via well-structured roads is one of the prime factors that have boosted the real estate market of this city. City-based realtors are of the opinion that smart-city status for
Meerut will escalate the real estate scenario. With improved connectivity and massive commercial and retail developments, homebuyers will be keen to invest in property in
Meerut. Wider roads, better facilities, and sprawling office spaces make
Meerut a dream destination of sorts. It offers a high standard of living and is the best option in the NCR due to its close proximity to New
Delhi.
Delhi Meerut Highway,
Pavli Khas,
Ganga Nagar and
Malyana are some of the top locations for property solutions in the city. Low prices of property and affordable land rates have given rise to mid-segment and low-cost housing in
Meerut. However, with the city rapidly gaining vibrancy through higher rates of urbanization than most other budding cities, the residential property prices are believed to shoot up in the near future.
Lifestyle
Meerut is an education hub in western Uttar Pradesh with 4 universities and hordes of colleges offering courses on engineering, management, pharmacy, hotel management, etc. Chaudhary Charan Singh University has several degree colleges affiliated to it. The tourist attractions in and around the city include Jain temples of Hastinapur, St. Johns Church, Augarnath Temple, Jama Masjid, Martyrs Memorial, Gandhi Bagh, Shahpeers Mausoleum, Suraj Kund, Mansa Devi Temple, Basilica of Our Lady of Graces, Chandi Devi Temple and few others. Life in
Meerut is comparable to big cities as it boasts of reputed brands, hotels, clubs, car showrooms, besides a number of shopping malls.
